2664 foreigners take India's citizenship in four years through RTI
In the last four years, 2664 foreigners have been granted Indian citizenship on behalf of the Union Home Ministry. Pakistan is on top. 77 per cent of its people acquired Indian citizenship. This information was given by Jammu resident Raman Sharma through RTI.
The RTI said that 2664 people from 43 countries took Indian citizenship. There are 2063 and 188 Afghans from Pakistan. There are 97 people in Bangladesh. So far, 328 Pakistanis, one Afghani and one Bangladeshi got citizenship in 2020.
It has also come to the fore that people from big countries have also shown interest in becoming Indians. Us 59, British 19, Malaysia's 19, Singapore's 13, Germany's 6, Australia's 4, France's 3, Italy's 3, China's two, Israel's one and Russian nationals also took Indian citizenship.
From 2011 to 2016, 5477 foreign people have taken India's citizenship. 2157 Pakistanis, 1461 statless, 918 Afghans, 218 Bangladeshis, 108 Sri Lankans, 66 Iranians, 164 England, 61 American persons took citizenship.
